PHOTO ARTS CLUB TWEED
PHILOSOPHY/MISSION STATEMENT by Ray Richardson
Club Founder 2006
We are a photographic club with traditional values and contemporary ideas, for photographers who love taking pictures and want to learn, practice, develop and exhibit their skills within a sharing club environment.
Our emphasis is on developing a fellowship within which the art of photography, in all its forms and skill levels, is encouraged, respected, shared and celebrated by all. We respect and value the combined knowledge of our membership and endeavour to share this by giving what we know and receiving what we don’t know, and doing so with a generosity of spirit.
Whilst the artistry of the end product is our main goal, the processes involved in all its forms and preferences, should always be both satisfying and fun. We believe that this simple philosophy creates a space within which members can achieve their own aspirations, and do so within an environment of mutual respect and celebration.
MEETINGS
Meetings are held twice a month from 7.30 pm to 9.30-ish DST. Our ‘Inspiration’ evening is on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, and our Competition evening is on the 4th Wednesday of each month. In addition, Field Trips are organized for the Sundays following Competition evenings (see 'Set Subjects & Field Trips' tab). Social and other member-generated meetings are also arranged. Our programme is built around our philosophy with an emphasis on participation. Competition evenings are soft in nature with the accent on positive and constructive feedback. The emphasis is on personal aims and improvement rather than competition for its own sake. There are three categories; A, AB and B. Judging in its literal and, often practiced format, is not encouraged. Awarded ‘Photos of the Month’ are displayed on this site. Annual exhibitions and publishing of members images are ongoing. See ‘Inspiration Nights’ and ‘PAC Competitions’ tabs for further information.
COMMUNICATION
Our website is the official channel through which the club communicates with its members and members with it. Items posted in the FORUM facility on any subject, are always welcomed and will be responded to.

FACILITIES
We enjoy first class meeting facilities and have a range of high quality display and tutorial equipment including a PC, Projector and LCD screens.
MEMBERSHIP
The Photo Arts Club fee is $40 p.a. in addition to the South Tweed Sports membership fee of $10 p.a. Prospective members should join the South Tweed Sports Club first, and then complete an application form for Photo Arts Club membership. Members also enjoy, via our sponsors, favourable cost savings for equipment and printing services.
COMMITTEE
Members are encouraged to take part in the organization and running of the Club. Here again the philosophy is participation. In this regard it is our policy to create many small tasks, thereby making each task an enjoyable rather than an onerous one. We thrive on keeping the ball rolling, enjoying what we do, how we do it and the comradeship that’s generated. Please take a look at our site. Much more information is accessible when you become a member. Use the CONTACT US facility if you require further information or wish to provide some feedback.
JOINING THE CLUB
You can come to a maximum of three meetings before making a decision to join. Once decided, all you need to do is fill in a couple of forms & pay the fees. Then you're part of who we are. Although members give freely of their time and expertise to assist others to improve their photographic skills during our Group Studies sessions, it should be made clear that we are not a school of photography.
ENJOY THE JOURNEY!
